Overview of Yoga History & The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali Masterclass
Sunday, October 23, 2022
2:30 - 4:30pm ET/11:30am - 1:30pm PT/7:30 - 9:30pm GMT
1.5-hour lecture & discussion followed by a 30-minute Q&A session
“Go from a human being doing yoga to a human being Yoga.” — Baron Baptiste
So, you have a weekly yoga practice on the mat… Do you know why?
Have you heard the expression “Yoga off the mat”?
“Yoga off the mat” is actually the reason we get on the mat in the first place. But, like most Westerners, we realize this in reverse.
We start a weekly practice on the mat with movement and breathing thinking “this is Yoga.” After a while something shifts within us, and we start to feel there is much more to Yoga than what is happening to us “on the mat.”
If you’re going to walk the walk of a yogi, you need to also learn the talk: the sacred texts of Yoga.
There is a big difference between Yoga and yoga. Due to the popularity and profitability of yoga in the West, the deeper understanding and ultimate goal of Yoga has become overlooked, diluted, or many times lost entirely.
Understanding the history, philosophy, psychology, and science of Yoga teaches us its true purpose and how to apply it in our everyday modern lives.
It’s the capital “Y” Yoga that leads us down the path of transformation, not perfecting a handstand or touching our toes. It’s the capital “Y” Yoga that’s the soul of the practice.
